Alliteration

The repetition of the same vowel or consonant at the beginning of words or in stressed syllables. Dr. Seuss made excellent use of alliteration in his children’s books. Here’s an example from Fox in Socks (1965):

Through three cheese trees three free fleas flew.

While these fleas flew, freezy breeze blew.

Freezy breeze made these three trees freeze.

Freezy trees made these trees’ cheese freeze.

That’s what made these three free fleas sneeze.
